Working Holiday (IEC)

IEC is a draw. We check the disqualifying conditions first — and show past participants the routes they still have.

Check first

  • Korean citizens must be 18–35 (inclusive) for IEC. Past the age limit, the answer is a different route — study or LMIA-based work, not IEC.
  • It is a draw: entering the pool does not guarantee an invitation. Anyone promising certain selection is not telling the truth.
  • You can only get one IEC permit per season, even if you have participations left.
  • You need at least CAN$2,500 in funds, health insurance for your whole stay, and a round-trip ticket or the money to buy one.

You likely have more chances than you think

  • Under the new Canada–Korea youth mobility agreement, Korean citizens can participate in IEC twice, up to 24 months per participation (Working Holiday and Young Professionals twice; International Co-op once).
  • If you participated under the previous agreement (application before December 11, 2023), you can apply for a second and final period of up to 24 months.
  • Applying through an IRCC Recognized Organization adds 2 more lifetime participations.
  • Turning IEC time into PR means planning backwards from the CEC hour requirement (1,560 hours) from the start.

Frequently asked questions

My working holiday is over — can I return to Canada?
Often yes. Korean citizens now get two IEC participations (24 months each), previous-agreement participants can apply for a second period, and Recognized Organizations add two more lifetime participations. Check your own history before assuming it is over.
I am over 35 — can I still apply?
Not in the IEC categories, which run to age 35 inclusive for Korean citizens. We advise alternative routes such as study-to-work or LMIA employment.
Is selection guaranteed if I apply?
No. Selection rates vary by season. We never guarantee selection — our job is making sure the document stage after selection is flawless.
