The client, the mother in the family, had her study permit approved and entered Langara College in accounting.
The write-up describes Langara as a four-year public college in Vancouver offering two-year diploma programs, university transfer programs and two-year post-degree programs, with more than 10,000 international students, and its own LEAP (Langara English for Academic Purposes) ESL program for students whose English is not ready.
It stresses that Langara is known for not granting conditional admission through outside language schools, so conditional admission is available only through its own LEAP program, and that not every program can be entered conditionally. LEAP takes applications six times a year and requires a study permit.
The advantages noted are that, unlike BCIT's ISEP, registering for LEAP can produce a letter of acceptance covering LEAP plus the two-year main program, so some students receive a three-year study permit; that LEAP can be started with no English test score at all and has a Basic Level; and that free schooling for accompanying children is possible, which the write-up says has made it very popular.
